What is the largest obstacle to peace?

';The moment you start believing in things that are not a living experience for you, you are natural conflict. Now, what is the intelligence in moving into belief? The only thing is your ego feels comfortable '; I know'; is the only way you can make the ego grow, isn't it? ';I don't know'; is a big loss for the ego. When you say, ';I don't know'; you are incapable of conflict, you are a very humble and wonderful human being. See, you may be a very peaceful, nice human being today, but when somebody challenges your belief tomorrow, anger will arise within you, because you are so deeply identified with what you believe in. The moment you are identified, your identity is threatened with the belief system. Your survival instinct takes over and you will fight. We are going on talking about bringing peace to the world. I was a delegate in the United Nations for the Millennium World Peace Summit where we talked about bringing harmony and peace among religions. Why the need for tolerance and forgiveness? You think somebody's wrong, you're right. Now you think he has to be saved. He thinks you have to be saved. Both of you believe things that you do not know really. If you realize ';I don't know,'; you cannot fight. Without being capable of bringing peace into your own being, there is no way you are going to be capable of bringing peace to the world. Isn't it so?

If you can't make this little mind peaceful, are you going to make the world peaceful? Whatever you see in the world is just a projection of your little mind, an enlarged projection of your mind. Is there anything happening in the world which is not happening in your mind? Now, this science of yoga is a way to look inward. You cannot look inward if you're identified with something because the moment you're identified, all doors are closed to you. The very way you think and feel depends on what you're identified with. Right now let's say, for example, you identify yourself as ';I am an American';. Now, a situation happens, the very way you feel and respond to it is in a certain way. At that moment in national interest maybe it's a good thing, but still, instead of reacting to it you can respond to it more intelligently. When you're identified, you just become a reaction. You have no choice to think any other way. You have no capability of seeing the other person's point of view. You have no capability of seeing from where the problem is springing. You will just react. It's better that you come from your intelligence, not from your reaction. If you have to come from your intelligence, first thing is you must be able to look at things just the way they are, not from an identity. The moment you look at anything from an identity, you are prejudiced about it, isn't it?'; ~ Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

What are your thoughts? And how do you contribute to your inner peace?

What is the largest obstacle to peace?
Belief, dogma, identity are a hindrance to peace,it is quite obvious. What is the largest obstacle to peace?
I realized sometimes ago that the peace begins by myself. Then looking to achieve that I decided to try to stop criticizing anybody. It works.

Identity. We have to forget about our country, skin color, gender, and feel we are only a human if we want to address global conflicts.

And feel our humanity is part of the universe if we want to address the environmental question.

The boundaries/walls of division, discrimination erected on the mythical basis of caste, creed, gender, wealth and nations are the impediments for peace that is so naturally present in us and can be experienced once the wall is removed.
The largest obstacle to peace is a real fat guy gouched-out in the revolving doorway of the negotiation centre.

That's, like, a metaphor.
Oneself. We think to much of it. We stay on our belief and judgement. We are ourselves the largest obstacle. Peace is our wish but it is also our selfish wish. We want it only for ourselves.
The biggest obstacle to peace is people. People are stupid, selfish and stubborn. So, if you get two people in a place, likely there won't be peace.
religon is the good solution for peace we think in vietnam. we like mccain because he very religious and will execute athiest we dont like obama because he no religeous
The largest obstacle to peace is our unwillingness to love our fellow man unconditionally. From what I can tell, the best place to start is with ourselves.
Eliminating the ';ME';... the ';EGO';..
Ignorance, as in lack of education or desire to learn.

Check out the Dalai Lama's ';The Art of Happiness'; if you liked the above from SJV.
People who refuse to reconsider their hatred of others.
Peace is where justice and charity harmonize.

The biggest obstacle towards Peace is Hate.. As long as there is Hate in our Hearts, Hate in our Lives, and Hate on this Earth, Peace will sadly never be achieved..

The biggest obstacle to peace is me.
(((HATE)))
ok i cant read all that. sorry but the largest obstacle to peace is war.. hope it ends soon
yes we and our ego`s are indeed the biggest barrier to peace.
Rare is the man who can say, ';I feel fear, but I must know why before I act.';

Discipline, whether from Yoga or the many other sources is required.

The human instincts that come from our evolutionary history are difficult to overcome: fear of the stranger, exaggeration of circumstances, the difficulty of inaction when stressed.

I believe that wisdom increases with time, although there are periods when it decreases. I believe that, historically, mankind, just as an individual man, has taken a journey to increased wisdom. It is by individuals committing to this journey that mankind may continue progress.
Rufus: God still digs humanity, but it bothers Him to see the **** that gets carried out in His name - wars, bigotry, televangelism. But especially the factioning of all the religions. He said humanity took a good idea and, like always, built a belief structure on it.

Bethany: Having beliefs isn't good?

Rufus: I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life should malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't generate. Life becomes stagnant.

You say everything that I have learned already. I do not identify myself with any religion, instead I tell people that I am spiritual. I always tell people that since no faith can be proved as true, then you can only follow it on your own faith. If you follow something so dearly, what makes you think that other people who follow other religions don't hold their beliefs as dearly as you do? I just choose to let people believe whatever feels right to them, and i never judge or criticize their beliefs, because i would not want anyone to do that to me. I choose to follow the age old virtue, ';Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.'; Said in many ways in many faiths. I believe that this single sentence can bring a world of change to humankind.
The human race is the biggest obstacle, I don't let people or things bother me to much Help other whenever possible regardless if it's a pain in the a**. also I don't believe in too much it only leaves you open to dissapointment of course some things get on your goat and you cant control is build a bridge and move on
