Our family is considering a move to Grand Junction CO from Canada, any input on the city?

We are a family with 4 young children and I am looking for all kinds of information. The cost of living is the biggest question on my mind (how much are taxes property taxes, utilities, groceries, basically everything), also the schools, health care. Things to do (is there a lake nearby?) How is the shopping? Any info about the BMX track would be helpful and hockey. Thanks for your helpOur family is considering a move to Grand Junction CO from Canada, any input on the city?

Its not the worst city its not the nicest city. In order to get to major areas for shopping and other activities you will have to go about 4 hours east to get to Denver or several undred miles to the west to Salt Lake. GJ (pop. 50,000) is kind of a forgotten city in CO just because its soo close to Utah and far away from the metropolis that people just forget about it. Living should not be too expensive, at least it will be cheaper then most of Colorado. Have you though of moving closer to Denver (pop w/ suburbs 3 million) or Colorado Springs (pop w/ suburbs 500,000) possibly?
Gd. Jx is inexpensive to live. It is at the edge of the desert and surrounded by beatiful book cliffs, the Colorado National Monument and the Colorado river. It is not the mos beautiful city in Colorado, but the environs are super nice. Travel there first and then decide.
